White Zombie Game

I volunteered to play a Facebook game about a band and I was assigned, by Alex Pogosov, the band White Zombie. White Zombie is indeed one of my favorite bands and I suspect he knew this. I’m pretty sure I was first exposed to this groovy horror-metal chaos band, like most people, by Mike Judge via Beavis and Butthead circa 1993. A friend of mine later gave me a tape of La Sexorcisto: Devil Music Volume 1, but it only had like the first five songs. When I ultimately bought the CD it was like a bonus because I’d never heard the rest of the album. When the next album, Astro-Creep 2000 came out, I bought it right away and found it worthy of the name White Zombie. It would be a difficult task to identify a favorite track from this band. Specifically for this assignment, I just now skipped around a bunch on La Sexorcisto, and I’ve reached the conclusion that Cosmic Monsters Inc. is probably my favorite. It has everything I’m looking for in a White Zombie song. Sci-fi samples, absurd lyrics, heavy riffs, and an industrial edge. Strangely enough, for a White Zombie song, the lyrics are NOT complelety peppered with the exclamation “yeah!”.

Prayer

Acting Governor Dan Patrick (gross) and Senator Ted Cruz (gag me) are begging people to pray for the people lost in the hill country flooding. Let me be frank: Prayer does nothing. Commenting “Prayers” on a tragic Facebook post is laughable. Those people aren’t even actually praying. They’re just typing a word – a worthless word. Prayer is a way of absolving yourself from taking actual action. If you feel like you can help, then help. In real life.…

Strange Dream

I watched Strange Days yesterday, which featured Juliette Lewis topless. Last night, I dreamed that I ran into her at an airport. Apparently, she really liked me, and we made out for a long time. Then, for no apparent reason, I was topless for a while. We walked past some of my family and friends, who played it cool and just gave her finger guns or whatever. After she left, she texted me her hotel room. For some reason, I decided not to go.

Seeking a Friend Long Dead

Seeking a Friend Long Dead

Back in the ’80s I had a friend in Mesquite named Jason Schaffer. I lived on Luau Street and he lived one street over on Aloha Drive. I didn’t see him as much as I did my other friends. Plus, he was about four years older than I was. I really looked up to him as I thought he was polite yet cool. I was told circa 1990 by other kids in the neighborhood that Jason had tragically hanged himself and died. He was evidently a high school sophomore at the time. I never heard more about him ever again. I started looking around on Ancestry.com and found some things. I hope to find someone who knew hom better than I – perhaps Jason Johnston or members of Mesquite FB groups.…

Home in Time

Home in Time

I’ve always had this feeling that my birth month is like my home on the calendar. Almost like the Earth’s position in the solar system during that month (November) is my true home. The further out, the further from home. It’s weird because, aside from sleeping a ton, there’s nothing I can do to get there faster. I can’t just save up money and take a brief trip to November.

Have you ever had a feeling like that?…
